The Lighthouse Stance...
Letter from the President of Lighthouse Communities
After months of working behind the scenes, planning meetings and soliciting a group of generous members of the local philanthropic community, we now bring to you an update to the capital campaign for the Lighthouse Development Center (LDC). We recently established a fundraising committee to take our campaign to the next level by seeking out individual donations and corporate gifts. I would like to thank all of the individuals who attended our initial campaign meeting to learn of our plans for the renovation of 1167 Madison Avenue SE and expressed their commitment to this fundraising effort that will help expand our neighborhood revitalization goals.
It was fitting to have the generous support of individuals present as this is a campaign that touches everyone associated with Southtown. I know that I speak for my friend and former founder of Lighthouse Communities David Allen in saying that, although we are very excited to be launching the public phase of the campaign, we still have a lot of work to do.
As we move into the final stages of this campaign, we go enthusiastically. Since the beginning, we have known that the capital campaign for the Lighthouse Development Center would transform the Madison and Hall corridor in ways not done in a while. Adding the library in 2000 was a major event for the community, along with a health center, the townhomes in 2005, a new senior housing development in 2006… and this will be the capstone, adding 6 new incubator spaces, 2 anchors - a permanent restaurant and a police field office, a community resource tool center, Lighthouse’s corporate offices and more. This will solidify the future of the Madison and Hall Street corridor for many years to come. We are also excited about the physical improvements that will take place in this area in the next couple of years, which will help make a much greater impact.
For those of you who have already pledged a gift to this campaign, we are already wholeheartedly indebted to you for helping us realize this dream. Many others have asked me what they can do to help this cause. First and foremost, I would encourage you to learn more about the Campaign by reaching out to me or to a member of our office at (616) 451-9140 or by visiting our website and reading through our campaign on the Lighthouse's blog; I think you will like what you see when we are finished. If you wish, you may donate right now.
